Expert Video - What does a prehabilitation plan for lung cancer surgery involve?

Susan O'Conner-Von, a professor of nursing at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, talks about what a prehabilitation plan for lung cancer surgery involves. She explains that a prehabilitation plan is a set of actions you and your healthcare team will develop together, with the goal of optimizing your physical and mental health in preparation leading up to your lung cancer surgery, as well as for afterwards during your recovery at home. These actions can include proper nutrition, physical exercises that improve lung health, stopping smoking, strengthening mental well-being, and other practices that improve your overall health. Susan says to ask your doctors or nurses about whether they have a formal prehabilitation program, and if not, to develop a program with them that will optimize your health before your lung cancer surgery.
