Susan O'Conner-Von, a professor of nursing at the University of Minnesota, describes
how you can get help to quit smoking in preparation for your lung cancer surgery. Stopping smoking can be very challenging, but for lung cancer patients it is especially important because
the sooner you quit, the sooner your lungs will start to recover in time for your surgery. Susan recommends focusing on the
positive benefits of quitting smoking, which include:
improving the health of your lungs and body,
feeling well enough to exercise,
sparing those around you from secondhand smoke, and
saving money. Speak with your healthcare provider about what types of products or programs may be suitable to help you quit smoking as soon as possible.
