Thoracic surgeon, Dr. Shanda Blackmon, talks about
what drug treatments are typically used before lung cancer surgery. She explains that if you have lung cancer, the
stage of your lung cancer first needs to be determined. Traditionally, if you are a candidate for treatment before surgery, you would receive either
chemotherapy or chemo-radiation to try to shrink your cancer. Due to recent, pivotal research, Dr. Blackmon further explains that you may now also receive an
immunotherapy drug before having surgery, as it has been shown to be more beneficial than just receiving chemotherapy alone. This change in understanding has altered the landscape of how patients now receive treatment before having their lung cancer surgery.
